The Issues

All children deserve to have a school that makes them feel safe and included.

We test our students too much. We don't trust our teachers to assess their progress and spend millions on testing. Students are anxious; teachers are forced to teach to the test. Some testing is needed, but we need to right-size it.

I support our public schools. We shouldn't drain resources from them to pay for private schools. Parents should be free to make that choice; we shouldn't have to pay their bills. 

We should support better training for careers, both professional and trades. We need to plan for the ways AI is re-shaping the working world. And we need to plan effectively for the population growth we're seeing in Blount County. 

Charter schools can be a helpful addition to educational offerings in a community, but they should be subject to stringent oversight and careful vetting.
